With the exception of our specialist political content management system, our developments are hosting agnostic and you can choose to retain your existing web hosting partner or to use a new provider of your choice.
The specification of your project will determine whether your system can be hosted on a widely available virtual host or requires a dedicated server with more control over the system configuration.
If you choose to host your project with us, we will serve your web site from our own HP servers in the UK. We will discuss with you at the start of your project whether it is most appropriate to host your web site on one or more dedicated servers or alongside our other projects.
Our most basic hosting setup includes redundant database, web site, email, and domain name services shared across four servers located at the Custodian Data Centre in Maidstone, Kent and one lightweight virtual server hosted elsewhere in the UK. Our hosting rates are competitive at just £120 +VAT per year for a straightforward website.
We offset the servers' carbon emissions through COCO2 and, thanks to its innovative cooling system, the data centre recently won the "Green" Data Centre award at the Datacentre Leaders Awards 2009.
In preparation for the expected exhaustion of IPv4 Internet addresses within the next 2 years, our hosting is now IPv6 ready.
If traffic to your website or online application must be encrypted, your hosting fee will be a bit higher to account for the fact that we need to assign you an individual IP address for your site.
Our charges for registering or renewing a certificate can depend on the type of certificate required and our supplier's charges vary but in March 2013 our prices for renewing and installing a standard certificate are:
| Registration period | Price | Annual
equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| 1 year | £115 +VAT | £115 |
| 2 years | £165 +VAT | £82.50 |
| 3 years | £200 +VAT | £66.67 |
| 4 years | £230 +VAT | £57.50 |
| 5 years | £260 +VAT | £52 |
